/enchant
op 2Items/enchant adds an enchantment to whatever the target is holding. It obeys the normal rules — maximum vanilla level, no conflicting enchantments, and only on items that accept it. To go past those limits, build the item with /give instead.

Common questions about /enchant
›Why can I not enchant past level 5?
/enchant respects the enchantment’s maximum level. For Sharpness 1000 or similar, put the enchantment on the item with /give, which bypasses the cap.
›Why does it say "that enchantment cannot be applied"?
The held item does not accept it, or it conflicts with an enchantment already there — Sharpness and Smite, or Silk Touch and Fortune, for example.
